I have seen a profile miniature in colour, with the contours of the face all shown in flesh tints, backed with the artist's Trade Label No. 2. The sitter was a policeman. As police uniforms were not introduced until 1829, we know that this profile was painted no earlier than this date. The number 60 was shown on the sitter's collar. The profile was almost half-length, with no bust-line termination. Brownish flesh tints were used for the face, and the uniform was shown in dark blue. Some Chinese white and gum arabic were used to stress detail.
