Mrs Anna Letita Barbauld was an amateur artist throughout her long, eventful life as the patron of a boarding school in Sussex. She is recorded by Jackson as a silhouette artist who painted on card and paper. However, no examples of her work are currently known.
Mrs Anna Letitia Barbauld became famous after the success of her children’s books ‘Early Lessons’ and ‘Lessons at Home’, published towards the end of the 18th century. She was also celebrated for her poetry. Jackson’s entry in her ‘Dictionary’ refers to a number of examples painted on card and paper, of above average quality. However, none appear to have survived and no detail of her style is known.
