I Berry was active for around three years in the late 18th century. There has been some debate as to whether his initial should be ‘I’ or ‘J’, with no consensus as yet. Berry worked on glass, both convex and flat. Very few examples of his work have been discovered. However, some are backed with an elaborate trade label, which perhaps suggests that he painted more profiles than we know. He appears to have used pearwood to frame. Berry was a relatively accomplished artist, and took particular care over sitters’ dress.
