Known from an advertisement in the Royal Cornwall Gazette (5 October 1805). One can only surmise, since Barrett was a miniaturist and portrait painter, that the likenesses offered in his advertisement were painted. For this reason, as well as the disparity in dates, it seems unlikely that he was the Barrett (fl. c. 1838-40; see Section One) who was a cutter of only mediocre ability. The advertisement reads thus:
MINIATURE AND PORTRAIT PAINTING BARRETT,
Miniature and Portrait Painter, begs leave to acquaint the Ladies and Gentlemen of Truro and its vicinity, that in about a fortnight's time, he intends visiting the place, where, from executing correct Likenesses on reasonable terms, he flatters himself that he shall merit their patronage and support.
