Burt, Albin Roberts (McKechnie Section 2)

See Section Two for main entry

Burt painted profile miniatures in colour; indeed, he may have painted more pieces in this style than silhouettes. Foskett mentions one profile miniature signed 'A. R. Burt Warwick, August, 1814', which was sold by Sotheby and Company, London, in 1962. Long records one example which he judges to be of poor quality; the sitter, a woman with a florid complexion, wearing a green dress, is not shown in profile. I have seen a coloured profile of a woman, painted in a rather streaky fashion. Since Burt signed much of his work, and used papier mâché frames with his name engraved on the hanger, further unrecorded examples might be readily identifiable.
