Recorded by Jackson (Dictionary), who quotes an entry on him from the catalogue of the Great Exhibition, 1851, which gives his age as ten at the time. He cannot therefore be identified with the other artists of the same name (C. L. Barber, M. S. Barber, q.q.v., or the Barber who worked for the Adelaide Gallery, q.v.). It is not known whether he continued to work as a profilist after reaching manhood. The catalogue states him as 'executing figures and landscapes cut of paper with scissors, no design having first been traced'. An exhibition stencil may have been used on this work.
