Introduction:

Cruikshank was born in 1789, and is known to have been a midshipman in the East India Company before becoming an artist. There is only 1 known silhouette attributed to Cruikshank. It is of an Egyptian soldier on a galloping horse. The background is painted in a wash and the pyramids are visible. This sold at Sothebys on 11th February 1932. It is signed I.C in Indian ink and I. Cruickshank in pencil. Unfortunately, there is very little other information about Cruikshank, except that he was recorded by Foskett as a miniaturist.
