Daniel Maclise was a very accomplished painter in oil and watercolour and miniaturist from Ireland. A collection of his work bequeathed to the Victoria and Albert Museum contained two painted silhouettes signed by the artist. In contrast to his ‘typical’ work, these pieces are plain and rather unaccomplished.
