Very little is known about the profilist Miles, not even their gender. Jackson attributes to them two full-length profiles of naval officers. One has a trade label and the other an advertisement, both bearing the name Miles. The trade label in particular tells us Miles advertised his services in Nottingham. Jackson describes the profiles as cut in black, with details such as the buttons on the uniform highlighted in gold. The advertisement on the back of one of the profiles informs us that Miles used a “patented silhouette machine”. Unfortunately, other information about Miles is scant.
