Introduction:

Laura Mackenzie was the third daughter of Sir Alexander Muir Mackenzie Bail, born in 1801 at the family estate ‘Delvine’ in Perthshire. She produced cut work as a teenager. These were mostly group pieces depicting domestic scenes such as babies being bathed, children playing cards, and older members of a family playing chess. As may be expected, she appears to have cut silhouettes more as a hobby than a profession.
