Introduction:

There is one silhouette attributed to a Lambert, dated to the early 19th century. His or her identity remains unknown. However, there are three different Lamberts who exhibited at the Royal Academy contemporaneously and may therefore have painted it. These Lamberts, known to be E F Lambert, G F Lambert and J W Lambert, all worked in the same era in London; E F Lambert out of North Pimlico 1823, G F Lambert from Waterloo Bridge 1822-1846, and JW Lambert from Croydon 1822-1843. The silhouette attributed by trade label to a Lambert is presumed to have been painted around 1809. It is a bust length painting of a woman on flat glass. The style is quite typical for the time, with little embellishment. Research has been unable to uncover which, if any, of the Lamberts it is attributable to.
