Introduction:

Research indicates a mid-19th century profile on card sold by SOTHEBYS (London) in February 1966, bearing the printed trade label of  "A. Lloyd, Profile-Painter, Bristol" was a work by GEORGE AZARIAH LLOYD (1821-1900).

An itinerant artist working in the Midlands and Southern England from the mid-1840s, G.A. Lloyd is best-known for cut-work produced in Brighton during the 1860s.

Records ascertain George Azariah Lloyd "Artist" married at Clevedon near Bristol in 1848. At the Bristol baptisms of  daughters in 1850 and 1853, he was recorded a "Travelling Artist" and "Artist". It appears therefore a safe assumption that he was "A. Lloyd", the Bristol profilist.
