Introduction:

E K Lewis is only recorded as a silhouette artist through the existence of a silhouette painted c 1792-1794. It is not signed by Lewis, but when reframed by Mrs A J Christie she inscribed on the back “By E.K.Lewis”. The profile is painted on card using watercolour. No gum Arabic is used, and fine brushstrokes are used to show detail on the hair. The bust-line termination is distinct, and could possibly identify further works by Lewis. The profile is framed in an oval solid brass frame.
