Recorded in his papers by Woodiwiss, who stated that Turner worked at Upper Gallery, Western Exchange, Old Bond Street, London. Since this address appears on a handbill issued (probably 1822-24) by the concern known as 'Prosopographus, the Automaton Artist' (q.v.; the text of the handbill is quoted), it is possible that Turner worked for this gallery during the early 1820s. Woodiwiss does not state whether the address was printed or handwritten in his source. This information is insufficient to relate the artist to any of the miniature painters named Turner recorded by Foskett. Woodiwiss mentions a full- length silhouette (which he describes as 'ugly') in plain black, in which the figure stands on a roughly painted base; this suggests a date in the 1840s.
