Introduction:

Thomas Cox Rackstrow was a profilist and a flower-painter of the mid 19th century, known today solely through a newspaper article recording a charge of fraud brought against him c 1823-1825. A few examples of his work have been recorded by collectors but have not survived. One of these is described as a piece painted on card and shaded in white, signed on the reverse. Since the details of the fraud hearing describe “a great number of his pupils” in the crowd, it can be assumed that Rackstow was a teacher for a time.
