Mr. Damian O'Brian who works as the Irish Tourist Board in London is a great admirer of Aug. Edouart and his work He is needless to say particularily interested in Edouart's work in Ireland.
He has recently written an article on "Edouart in Bandon 1835" for the Bandon Historical Journal (issue No. 13 1997.) It seems that Edouart cut 197 portraits whilst he was in the Town - although he was only there for a few months. Mr. O'Brian lists the names of nearly all of the 197. He cut the portraits of local officials, local merchants and many others including 19 members of one family -the Nash Family. He did 3 separate portraits of a Lieut. Nugent, who ordered three copies of each - nine in all. Perhaps as Mr. O'Brian suggests he had many lady friends!
