Foster, Edward (McKechnie Section 3)

See Section Two for main entry

Included in this Section because, on Trade Labels Nos 2 and 3, he offers silhouettes on glass. No authenticated silhouette by Foster, painted on glass, is known. The anonymous silhouette on glass of an army officer, however, possibly painted soon after 1800 and illustrated in Chapter Four, is so similar in style to some of Foster's earlier silhouettes painted in black on card that it can probably be ascribed to him.

A colonel
Silhouette, possibly by Edward Foster, and painted c. 1800.
The shirt-frill does suggest the work of Foster, who served in the army until 1805. He may have painted this silhouette during his years in the army.

The sash worn outside the coat indicates a date after 1796.
