Introduction:

McKechnie records Farrar as potentially the artist of fine late 18th century painted profiles, currently unattributed. The name is recorded in a Bath Guide of 1780 as “Farrar, Profile-Painter, at Miss Bennett's, Paragon” – the Paragon being a well-known terrace in Bath. Further research has identified two potential profile artists named Farrar, both living in 1778 in the Paragon. However, as no work by a ‘Farrar’ has yet been identified, this artist’s identity remains speculation.
