Introduction:

Thompson is known from a single profile in the W.E Fox-Smith collection. This is inscribed on the reverse ‘Miss Gadsby/Drawn by I.S (L.S ?) Thompson/1841’. The profile is 3/4 inches long, painted in black on card, with detail of the dress painted in pale gold. The bust-line termination is unusually curved and could be used to identify future silhouettes by Thompson. The frame is mahogany with a gilt inner surround.
