Foster, Edward (McKechnie Section 7)

See Section Two for main entry

Foster is included here because it seems almost certain that he sometimes painted in colour. One profile of a soldier (with the face in black and uniform in colour) is, in my opinion, his work. All the detail is painted with the precision characteristic of all Foster's work, and the colours of the uniform are accurately depicted. I have seen other unsigned silhouettes of military subjects, dating from the early 1800s, painted in a style dissimilar from that of Charles Buncombe, which might be by Foster.
