Foster painted a few small pieces on ivory for jewellery setting. Mr J. A. Pollak owns a small locket-brooch, holding a half-length profile of a girl, in her teens, painted perhaps 1818-20. Though the piece is unsigned, its provenance cannot be doubted. Another example (the sitter was a man) was sold by Sotheby and Company, London, on 30 April 1973.
The example owned by Mr Pollak is painted in gold and gum arabic against a base of Venetian red, much in the style of the artist's 'red' work on card; it measures 1½ x 1 in. The other example was also painted against a red background; it was 1¾ in. high.
