Dickinson (fl. 1820s)

Known from a silhouette of a woman mentioned to me by Mr Graham Thomas, who said that it was painted at Tiverton, Devon, possibly during the 1820s. A portrait miniaturist named Dickinson is recorded by Foskett as working in St James's Parade, Bath, c. 1809-11, but we cannot be certain that this was the profilist, especially since neither Mr Thomas nor Foskett record any forenames.

The silhouette noted by Mr Thomas was finely painted in black, heightened with grey, on an unusually small plaster slab (2 x 17/8 in.). The silhouette was signed 'Dickinson' in pencil on the back, with the address `Tiverton'.
