Davies was recorded as a painter of silhouettes by Woodiwiss, who may have seen a signed silhouette. It is possible that he may in fact have been the American profilist J. H. Davies. However, there is insufficient evidence to identify Woodiwiss’ Davies with any of the many silhouette artists named Davis or Davies. No examples of his work have been discovered, and he is only evidenced through Woodiwiss’ evidence.
