John Pye was recorded as a silhouette artist by J Pollock, ‘Fresh Light on Silhouette’, Connoisseur, 1949. However, no details of his life or career were noted and no examples of his work have yet been identified. McKechnie has suggested that this artist could be the engraver John Pye (fl 1758-74), who worked in line, etching, and stipple, specialised in painting and engraving looking-glasses, and worked for John Boydell, owner of the Shakespeare Gallery. However, this is yet to be proved.
