I have seen only cut work by this artist, but among Woodiwiss's papers there is a note that he had seen a painted example.

Painted work, if found, would probably be in gold against black, roughly executed, and would probably date from the mid-1840s. The extant cut work shows no bust-line termination, but there is insufficient evidence to establish whether this was Jay's usual practice.
