Little information is known about C Stanley, and we are only aware of his existence though two press notices held in the Bodleian Library, Oxford and two examples of his work. One press notice offers colour miniatures on ivory, the other offers colour miniatures on card and black and white profiles. C Stanley also advertised his use of a machine to take profiles. One example of Stanley’s work is a hollow-cut silhouette. It has a signature on the back in brown ink reading ‘Taken by Stanley, Feb. 1814/Mrs John Allen’.
