Introduction:

J C Scully is reported in Jackson’s Dictionary as the artist of three early 19th century Irish political figures: Daniel O'Connell MP, Richard Lalor Shiel MP and John Lawless Esq. Apparently the silhouettes were in a packet, on the outside of which was recorded by an unknown person: “All the above were cut for me by a clever English artist, J C Scully”. This record is all that is known of Scully, and no examples of their work appear to have survived.
