Introduction:

S Sanderin is the alleged artist of a painted silhouette, sold in 1948 by Blairman of London from the collection of Sir Henry Sutcliffe Smith. It was described in the catalogue of the sale as “A portrait of a lady, painted in colours on paper, with lace cap, within a coloured border of flowers and leaves”, signed Sanderin and dated to 1797. This silhouette is currently lost. Nothing else is known of this artist’s life or career.
