Work in colour is offered on more than one advertisement issued by this gallery; it was probably painted by Charles Hervé II, who managed the concern.
I have seen two fine profiles in colour on cut paper, painted in Halifax c. 1827-28. The sitters were presumably husband and wife. The cut edges of the paper were well concealed; the backgrounds (which were skilfully painted) showed a pillar, a wall and distant trees behind each subject. The profiles, which were large (each measuring 18 x 12 in.) were in rosewood frames; each bore Trade Label No. 3.
It is doubtful if unlabelled or unsigned work in colour could be identified, since Hervé was a fine copyist as well as a good painter of profiles taken from life
