Mary O’Driscoll was the daughter of the accomplished Irish silhouette cutter Stephen O'Driscoll. McKechnie has attributed work to her, rather than her father, on the basis of their family connection, the fact that it is signed “O'Driscol” and is of noticeably poorer quality than Stephen O'Driscoll's authenticated work. However, there is no direct evidence that Mary was a silhouette artist. The example referred to by McKechnie shows a mayor with his beadle. The figures are out of proportion, clumsily cut, and over-painted in body colour. The two figures are placed against a roughly executed background of umber wash.
