Allenby (McKechnie Section 6)

See Section Two for main entry

Two advertisements issued by Allenby (Limerick Chronicle, 27 June and 12 August 1840) offer miniatures in colour. In the first advertisement they are offered (presumably painted on card) at 2s 6d and (full face) at 5s; work on ivory is offered at 20s to £10. In the second advertisement, the charge for a 'highly finished Miniature on ivory' is only 7s 6d; for a profile in colour (presumably on card), only ls. Presumably Allenby was having little success in Limerick, since he made this reduction in his prices within the space of only two months. Since he tells us in the first of these advertisements that he has had thirty-three years' experience, it is strange that no miniature or profile by him has been recorded.
