Introduction:

Named by Jackson in the ‘Dictionary’, little is really known of either of these individuals. Two portraits by ‘Messrs R&W Kerry’ were sold at auction in 1995. These are bust-length profiles of women painted on plaster in dense black pigment, with thinned black used for details and a lighter shade to give ‘depth’. These examples probably date from the 1790s.
