Recorded by Jackson (Dictionary). Known only from a print in the National Portrait Gallery engraved after a posthumous silhouette of Francis, the late fifth Duke of Bedford. Since the print is signed 'W. Kempton fecit' Kempton was doubtless the painter of the original silhouette as well as the engraver. Born on 22 July 1765, the grandson of the fourth Duke, the Duke died unmarried on 2 March 1802 at Woburn Abbey. His father had been killed by a fall from a horse when Francis was only two years old. His brother was Lord William Russell, who was murdered by his valet in 1840.
