Introduction:
There is some debate surrounding the life and death of James Dulfield, a silhouette artist who appears to have worked exclusively on glass. Jackson quotes the London Chronicle’s obituary of Dulfield printed in 1759, which states that he “died recently”. However, McKechnie argues that it is more likely that Dulfield died in 1789 because there was very little glass work during the earlier part of the 1700s. However, no work of his has been discovered to allow for a study of his ability.
